Eight Day: Film Review Edits

Image
February 28 / 2024 Repeating again the speech taken from the last blog of the review done by my friend in which she stated the following: "I absolutely loved the title, Housekeeper, I just feel like it gave a suspenseful vibe like The Beekeeper. It was a type of one-word yet not a one-word title, and it made it very interesting. I also liked the slanted title design. However for the designs, instead of three, I wish it was two because I feel like the two bold choices, to use the simple bold with the more slanted one, and not the one all over the place. I liked the plot, it was pretty good. But you know, this is a high school film, and productions are not too perfect. Besides that, it's a really good film. It used a good amount of conventions. Definitely make sure to redo that opening focal point, to make it more clear that this is where the scene is taking place. Make sure that the audience knows what they are watching." In response to her comment, we were happy that she

Seventh day: Film Review

February 27 / 2024 For the review, I had my friend Kayla review our progress and take notes on it. Here are her following, exact words: "I absolutely loved the title, Housekeeper, I just feel like it gave a suspenseful vibe like The Beekeeper. It was a type of one-word yet not a one-word title, and it made it very interesting. I also liked the slanted title design. However for the designs, instead of three, I wish it was two because I feel like the two bold choices, to use the simple bold with the more slanted one, and not the one all over the place. The speaker expresses admiration for the title "

Sixth Day: Music Adding

Image
February 26 / 2024 Our desired ambiance and theme revolve around an eerie mood, achieved through carefully selected music. We aim to ensure our audience understands the tone we're striving for. Picture a menacing melody creeping into the scene as the camera pans across a dimly lit home, its sinister notes resonating through the screen. This music serves as a precursor to the impending suspense in our opening scene, featuring discordant violins and menacing percussion, readily available on YouTube. As the villain emerges, each crescendo heightens the suspense, leaving the audience feeling uneasy and on edge. The abrupt bursts of discordance peppered throughout the soundtrack reflect the unpredictable nature of the story to come. Some viewers may find it unsettling, as it hints at the impending danger lurking in the shadows, sending chills down their spines. The intensity of the soundtrack increases as the scene unfolds, drawing the audience deeper into the mystery. Distant cries and

Fifth Day: Editing Overview

Image
February 25 / 2024 So far, my group partner and I are quite satisfied with the progress we've made in filming our project. We've been able to come to a consensus on the various shots we need to capture for our opening sequence, which is a relief. However, upon transferring the footage to our computer for editing, I noticed a slight change in lighting that obscured some of the props, making them less visible on camera.  Furthermore, as I reviewed the footage, I observed that our actors weren't always reacting appropriately with their facial expressions to the unfolding events. For example, our antagonist is meant to initially appear as a good character before gradually revealing their evil intentions. However, during the editing process, it became apparent that the villain's malevolent nature was evident from the start, which affected the pacing and reveal of the plot. I had to work closely with the actors to adjust their performances to align with the intended character

Fourth Day: Editing starts

Image
February 26 / 2024 2 After taking the necessary shots that make up most of our video, we decided to finally add them to the actual project. To find which app we would use, we went through tutorials of different apps. We went through Alight Motion, Video Star, Kinemaster, Capcut, etc. In the end, we finalized using capcut because it was the simplest and easiest editor to use. Alight Motion was too complex and specific, too much work to adjust one scene. Video Star required in-app purchases which we decided was not necessary for the video. Kinemaster needed to be more complex and had an unremovable unwanted watermark. Using capcut, we started a new project and added our taken shots. To begin with, the opening scene is a black screen with letters that spell out, "our studio name presents". Followed by a close-up of the shopping cart, followed by a higher angle shot, to a close-up of her eyes. Then we added another black screen with letters saying the name of our production compa

Third Day: Filming Shenanigans

Image
February 23 / 2024 My partner and I have accumulated approximately three days of filming experience at this juncture. However, there have been many interruptions and mess-ups in our scenes. I grew slightly impatient with the continuous adjustments required. Nonetheless, maintaining this consistency is integral to enhancing the quality of our content. My partner and I compiled a list of necessary adjustments, including refining non-verbal character development. In my recent blog post, I emphasized the importance of our actors delving deeper into character traits and immersing themselves in the background of our thesis. This aligns with our focus on effectively conveying points and advancing the plot, which revolves around creating a sense of fear and intrigue, deliberately blurring the lines between protagonist and antagonist.  Exploring concepts such as blocking and staging, which are novel to us in film, has proven beneficial. Fortunately, the nature of filming allows us the flexibili

Second Day: Filming continues

Image
February 21 / 2024  Adding on to our footage from before, after establishing the desired shots into our main project, we went on to film the second piece of scenery on the road. However, the issue here is that both of us lacked the ability to drive, main factor being we don't have our permit. But either way, we decided to continue with the film taking because we could use limited shots. Instead of doing a full shot, we decided to split it into different scenes. First we took shots as Elaine walked toward her car with shopping bags she recruited from the food market. Then as she put her bags in her backseat and got in to drive. Last take for that scene was as she was backing up and heading out to the road. Next scene starts with a shot of Myra inside her car as she advances and follows Elaine slowly a bit back to hide her intentions. Then it cuts into her, (Elaine) driving around the neighborhood for a few seconds, with Myra behind her back, requiring just a few seconds for this sho

First Day: Filming starts

Image
February 20 / 2024 To embark on our filming journey, my partner and I initiated by convening and setting a timeline for commencement. Following this, we carefully selected the appropriate backdrop for our initial shots. I aimed to rehearse camera techniques that would effectively convey the genre's essence through the chosen setting. Additionally, the tone established not only sets the mood but also hints at the forthcoming cinematic experience for the audience. The setting plays a crucial role in evoking emotions and can mirror a character's inner turmoil. Aligning the opening scene with our genre ensures that the audience grasps the narrative's essence from the outset, enhancing their engagement. Conversely, a misalignment may lead to confusion or disappointment among viewers. For our inaugural shot, I opted to focus on Myra, our antagonist, mourning her recently deceased spouse. This decision was influenced by her sexual orientation, which added depth to her obsession wi
