First Day: Filming starts
February 20 / 2024
To embark on our filming journey, my partner and I initiated by convening and setting a timeline for commencement. Following this, we carefully selected the appropriate backdrop for our initial shots. I aimed to rehearse camera techniques that would effectively convey the genre's essence through the chosen setting. Additionally, the tone established not only sets the mood but also hints at the forthcoming cinematic experience for the audience. The setting plays a crucial role in evoking emotions and can mirror a character's inner turmoil. Aligning the opening scene with our genre ensures that the audience grasps the narrative's essence from the outset, enhancing their engagement. Conversely, a misalignment may lead to confusion or disappointment among viewers. For our inaugural shot, I opted to focus on Myra, our antagonist, mourning her recently deceased spouse. This decision was influenced by her sexual orientation, which added depth to her obsession with our protagonist. As we delved deeper into character development, we encountered challenges in portraying the complexity of Myra, our antagonist. Capturing her grief and obsession with authenticity proved to be a daunting task, requiring careful consideration of nuances in performance and cinematography. Myra's internal struggles and motivations demanded meticulous attention to detail to ensure her portrayal resonated with the audience. Balancing her villainous traits with moments of vulnerability and humanity added layers to her character, enriching the narrative tapestry. Despite the hurdles we faced in bringing Myra to life, we remained committed to crafting a compelling and multifaceted antagonist. Each rehearsal and reshoot offered opportunities for refinement and exploration, allowing us to delve deeper into Myra's psyche and motivations. Through persistence and creative collaboration, we gradually unraveled the intricacies of Myra's character, laying the groundwork for a captivating and immersive cinematic experience. Practicing different camera shots, such as mid-shots and long shots, captured Myra's eerie encounter with our victim in the grocery store, setting the tone for the scene. Maintaining coherence with our genre was paramount to our team, as it communicated our intended message clearly to the audience. Once we familiarized ourselves with the camera and finalized our shot list, we reviewed our footage, pleased with approximately 30 seconds of material. However, I identified areas for improvement, particularly in camera movement, which we resolved to refine in our future sessions. Despite the limited footage for our final project, our initial filming session was deemed successful, providing valuable insights for our subsequent endeavors.
